The sculptor and painter Hugo Weber (1918-1971) who emigrated to the USA in 1946 was the only Swiss who participated in American Abstract Expressionism. The exhibition spotlights one aspect of Weber’s work, which hitherto has hardly attracted attention: His preoccupation with Alberto Giacometti (1901-1966), this manifests itself in his different creative phases and was nurtured by numerous studio visits and regular contacts from 1939 until Alberto Giacometti’s death in 1966. The exhibition at the Bündner Kunstmuseum shows roughly 50 works by both artists – sculptures, paintings and drawings. Photographs, letters and texts, which document the relationship between the two artists, complete the show.
