The Swiss artist Peter Trachsel (1949-2013) made a name for himself internationally with his socio-cultural projects. He achieved this by founding the association die Hasena in the Prättigau village of Küblis. After his training as an interior decorator he attended the F+F School of Experimental Design in Zürich 1972-1973. He belongs to the pioneers of performance art in Switzerland, for which he received numerous awards. Starting in 1981 he ran the association die Hasena – Institute for the Flowing Art Traffic, which became the centre of his artistic activity, and where he began to initiate participatory projects. These were usually created in collaboration with other creative artists and often involved laypersons. In the mid-1980s he moved with his family from Zürich to Dalvazza near Küblis in the Prättigau (GR), where the rural environment became his field of action. In 2005 the cultural centre Passagenhaus opened in Küblis and as trusteeship of this cultural centre the Foundation for the Flowing Art Traffic was founded. In addition to these organisational and journalistic activities, Peter Trachsel always produced works of art in a more traditional sense. These included drawings, sculptures, photographs and a considerable number of ‘Kunst-am-Bau’ projects [art projects on buildings]. The exhibition in the Laboratory of the Bündner Kunstmuseum gives insight into Peter Trachsel’s varied work and activities and at the same time can be seen as a platform for a series of events.
