Heiner Kielholz
11.04.-02.08.2026

Heiner Kielholz (*1942) is a great unknown in Swiss art. Around 1970 he was part of the new Swiss avant-garde and exhibited internationally. He then largely withdrew from the public eye. For years he travelled without having a permanent residence and developed a body of work nourished by the experiences of the places he visited and shaped by his artistic attitude that explores the richness of what surrounds him and which defines his life. Since 1992, Heiner Kielholz lives and works in the Val Poschiavo and the Valtellina. He works continuously on a quiet oeuvre, mostly in small formats. He is held in particularly high esteem by fellow artists and is represented with important works in several Swiss art museums. His exhibitions are rare, but they are always very well received. While his most recent major exhibitions embraced a broad spectrum of themes, the exhibition at the Art Museum Graubünden focuses on the characteristic interiors and still lifes created over the past 15 years. They form a unique picture of his specific view of the world. Parallels are often drawn between Heiner Kielholz and the writer Robert Walser. Both share a love for the inconspicuous, everyday things of life.
