Diego Giacometti
28.06. – 9.11.2025

The Diego Giacometti (1902-1985) exhibition is conceived as a large and comprehensive retrospective, dedicated to an artist who skilfully moved between applied art and free art. If up until now Diego Giacometti was always presented in relationship to his famous brother Alberto (“Diego tritt aus dem Schatten”, “Der andere Giacometti”), the exhibition claims the right to honour this artist’s work as a creation in its own right. It is well known that Diego Giacometti’s success story only began after Alberto’s death. The exhibition makes clear that his artistic beginnings started much earlier. This is the first time that works by the artist can be shown, which were previously largely unknown and which laid the foundation for his later work.

The exhibition is laid out across both houses of the Art Museum Graubünden and in its display makes allowance for the different viewpoints concerning this work: In the Villa Planta, a former private residence, the objects appear as furniture in the context of the Graubünden art collection with works by his father Giovanni Giacometti and his brother Alberto Giacometti; on the other hand, in the extension building the works are shown like sculptures and make another reading possible.

For the design of the exhibition the artist Vaclav Pozarek (*1940) could be won. He has often been known for his innovative and specific forms of presentation.
